As with most house builders Persimmon Homes use cast stone architectural dressings on many of their developments.

Whilst enhancing the appearance of the properties these products can suffer from significant damage during normal sitehandling. The resultant repairs are expensive and detract away from the materials natural beauty.

On this large riverside project Persimmon Essex decided to use GRC to form feature door and window surrounds as well as more traditional cills etc. Whilst cills were installed as building work progressed all the surrounds were installed post masonry completion thus reducing even further the risk of scuffing by secondary trades.

Despite more than two hundred components being supplied the site suffered virtually no damage. As a result and with the saving obtained by using GRC door surrounds rather than Glass Reinforced Plastic significant overall cost savings were made.
