Blue Lion Place is a typical post war office/residential built in 1950 and constructed in facing brickwork with precast concrete architectural dressings.

Unfortunately the steel reinforcement of the precast elements had corroded badly over the last 60 years resulting in the face of the units breaking away in many areas. In addition due to the components acting as structural members the integrity of the building was being compromised. Various solutions were considered however it was decided the best available option was to cut back the original precast, insert steel support work and then clad with GRC elements to replicate the original profile and Portland stone appearance.

GRCUK were appointed to design and manufacture the replacement head, jamb and mullion claddings in high quality Spray process GRC. Specialist  installation as carried out by partner company City Masonry Ltd. Delivery was made in small “just in time” consignments due to very limited site access and storage. The works were fully completed with two weeks.

Everyone including the building owners, residents and commercial tenants is delighted with the finished work. The building is now restored to its former glory and looks very much the same as it would have done when it was opened six decades ago.
